Burnley FC Women’s Sarah Greenhalgh has been announced as a finalist for Women’s Player of the Year at the Northwest Football Awards 2018.
The nomination is the first time a Burnley FC Women player has been shortlisted at the prestigious awards, further testament to the growing success of the Clarets Women’s team.
Greenhalgh has been a key contributor to the first team’s successful season, one of the top goal scorers she has helped the newly promoted side to their current top place position in the FA Women’s National League Northern Division 1.
The Women’s Player of the Year is a tough category with fellow finalists including Manchester City midfielder Jen Beattie, Liverpool FC Women’s Laura Coombs, Everton Ladies Angharad James and Fylde Ladies defender Jenna Carroll.
Sarah said: “I am completely overwhelmed to have been shortlisted as a finalist! I’m honestly so surprised at the amount of support I’ve received and I’m genuinely grateful to every single person who has taken the time to vote for me.”
Burnley FC Women First Team Manager, Matt Bee said: “It is great to have one of our female players not only nominated but shortlisted as a finalist for the first time in the club’s history.
"Obviously, everyone is really proud of Sarah, her work rate, effort and desire to keep learning has been fantastic during my two years at the club.
"She is deserving of the recognition.”
