Burnley FC Women Top The Table

3 October 2018

A 1-0 victory at Barnsley FC Ladies at the weekend resulted in Burnley FC Women sitting top of the FA Women’s National League North Division 1 table.

Six back to back wins in all competitions against sides including Liverpool Feds, Bolton Wanderers LFC, Norton and Stockton Ancients LFC and Barnsley FC Ladies sees the Claret Women ensure a strong start to their league campaign.

Newly promoted to the division, the team have taken to the challenge of the FA Women’s National League, with players and coaching staff embracing the chance to play competitive sides from across the Northwest region each week.

Burnley FC Women First Team Manager, Matt Bee said: “The team have started to adapt well to this level and we are beginning to understand what it takes to get on the right side of the fine margins that you need to at women’s National League level.

“We have always put a lot of detail into our defensive structure and organisation and this is showing again this season, we know we are a difficult team to break down when everyone follows their role.

"However, that said there is a lot of work to do and there are things that will change along the course of the season, so we all need to keep working hard in order to maintain our effectiveness at this level.”

Alongside the league campaign the Burnley FC Women First Team plan to repeat the success of last year’s SSE Women’s FA Cup run in which they reached the third-round of the competition, the furthest stage the side had ever reached.

They take on Brighouse Town LFC in the third qualifying round of the competition on Sunday, 7th October.

The cup competitions continue as the team also face Huddersfield Town Ladies, a side currently sitting one level above them in the FA Women's Premier League Northern Division in the second round of the FA Women’s National League Cup on Sunday 14th October.

The first team play their games at Padiham FC. It costs adult supporters £2 to watch the fixtures while children aged 16 and under can watch for free.
