Dwight McNeil has been placed on stand-by for the England under-20 squad for a friendly against Germany later this month.
McNeil – who on the bench for the Clarets at West Ham last Saturday after three first-team appearances earlier this season – trained with the under-20 side ahead of a 2-1 win over Italy at AFC Fylde in October.
And the Clarets’ winger, 18, is still in the thoughts of coach Paul Simpson after being named as cover for the game against the Germans at Colchester United on Monday, 19 November.
The Clarets could have half a dozen players away on international duty over the next fortnight.
Robbie Brady, Jeff Hendrick, Kevin Long and Jimmy Dunne (currently on loan at Hearts) have been named in the Republic of Ireland’s provisional squad for games against Northern Ireland and Denmark.
Matej Vydra has been included in the Czech Republic squad to play a friendly against Poland on Thursday, 15 November and a Nations League game at home to Slovakia on Monday, 19 November.
Sam Vokes will be with Wales for their Nations League group decider against Denmark in Cardiff on Friday, 16 November and a friendly in Albania four days later.
And Johann Berg Gudmundsson is expected to be included in the Iceland squad to play Belgium and Qatar.
