Steven Defour hopes to be back fit and ready for pre-season as the Clarets build up for domestic and European duty.
Defour enjoyed an outstanding first half of the current campaign as Burnley laid the base for their top-seven finish before sustaining a knee injury which curtailed his campaign in January.
But the midfield play-maker – who has split his rehabilitation and recuperation between Belgium and Burnley – was back in town for the Clarets’ Player of the Year Awards night when he picked up the prize for goal of the season.
And Defour, whose stunning free-kick at Manchester United on Boxing day topped a supporters’ vote on the night, confirmed the good news that his recovery from surgery is progressing well as he eyes a return to the European stage after Sean Dyche’s side secured their place in next season’s Europa League.
“It’s difficult to see the team play because you want to be on the pitch,” said Defour, who already has a hat-trick of Champions League, Europa League and Uefa Cup campaigns on an impressive career CV from his time playing in Portugal and Belgium.
“But I’m doing very well. I’m ahead of schedule and I hope to be fit for pre-season.
“I think it’s an amazing achievement for the whole club. I think we have to continue like we have done. We have always improved and I hope we can improve next year.
“It will be nice to show Europe what Burnley is all about and I hope we can get into the group stage.”
