The Clarets were represented by two local primary schools this week at the Premier League’s 2018 Primary Stars tournament, hosted at Leicester City’s King Power Stadium.
A girls’ team from St. John the Baptist Primary School in Padiham and a boys’ team from St. Augustine’s of Canterbury RC Primary School took part in the competition, after securing their respective places in the final of the regional leg of the tournament organised by Burnley FC in the Community.
With the aim to offer the experience of what it’s like to live a day in the life of Premier League footballer, the schools travelled in style to Leicester by jumping on board the Clarets’ first team coach, with each player also receiving a personalised playing shirt.
The overnight nature of the trip meant the children had time to check out the home team changing room at the King Power Stadium prior to kick-off, as well as grabbing photos with the impressive Premier League trophy.
At the tournament, the schools battled it out in series of games refereed by Premier League officials including Bobby Madley and both teams finished in a very respectable second place in their groups.
The teams travelled back to Burnley with a goody bag in hand and with plenty of memories to last a lifetime.
Sport Development Manager Sam Howell said: “I know the children enjoyed every minute of their time in Leicester.
"It’s not every day you get to play a match on a Premier League pitch and they really did the Clarets proud.”
The Premier League Primary Stars programme offers a totally unique schools sport experience for local primary schools; combining once-in-a-lifetime experiences with high-quality delivery both in and outside of the classroom.
As well as opportunities to take part in events like the Primary Stars tournament, the programme also offers schools the chance to visit Turf Moor and enjoy appearances from Burnley FC first team players.
Could pupils at a primary school you know benefit from this dynamic Premier League programme?
