Wood Gets A Breather

Clarets striker left out of experimental New Zealand squad

15 March 2018

Chris Wood will not be adding to his New Zealand caps during the next international break.

The Clarets’ striker has not been included in the All Whites’ squad for a friendly against Canada in Spain as new national team boss Fritz Schmid takes the opportunity to look at some new players.

That means Wood, capped 56 times by his country and with three goals in his last two games for the Clarets, will not go head-to-head with Turf Moor team-mate Scott Arfield, who is in the Canada squad.

Former Burnley youngster Cameron Howieson, who now plays for Auckland City, returns to the senior squad after a lengthy absence as part of a 24-man party named by Schmid, a Swiss who was appointed last month.
