The Clarets’ under-23s got the go-ahead to return to league action tonight when they kick off a busy spell of six games in 22 days against Nottingham Forest at Curzon Ashton (kick-off 7pm).
Michael Duff’s side has seen two fixtures in the U23 Professional Development League wiped out by the weather since they exited the Premier League Cup with a 1-0 defeat to Swansea City at the end of February.
Tonight's game survived a mid-day pitch inspection but that has still left the Clarets with a dozen matches to play before the end of the campaign – including six in three weeks – as Duff’s men try to climb off the bottom of the northern group after a run of five successive league defeats.
Forest are currently third in the table after a 3-0 victory over Hull City on Monday ended a run of six games without a win in all competitions.
The two sides drew 1-1 at the City Ground in October in a game featuring Dean Marney’s comeback from injury and a first game in a Burnley shirt for Nahki Wells.
