Heaton Back In Action In U23s Victory

19 March 2018

Tom Heaton was back in action with a clean sheet as Burnley’s U23s put Charlton’s four-game winning streak to an end with a 1-0 victory.

Clarets skipper Heaton featured for the third time since recovering from a dislocated shoulder, and watched as Rahis Nabi’s deflected 73rd minute corner found the back of the net to cap a dominant Burnley performance.

The Clarets started the game on the front foot and came close when Ali Koiki squared the ball to Moise Kroma in the area, who forced Addicks stopper Maynard-Brewer into a smart save.

Koiki was causing all sorts of problems down the left, next time picking out Dwight McNeil in the box who headed just wide.

Michael Duff’s men were cruising through the first half and another McNeil header from a Josh Benson cross was guided inches wide of the goal.

Burnley carried their first half performance efforts into the second, with Oliver Younger towering a header over the bar from McNeil’s cross just before the hour mark.

Charlton’s Louis Yamfan then broke through on goal into the area and was awarded a yellow card for simulation following a clash with Heaton.

And the visitors got their well-deserved winner when Nabi’s corner found the back of the net with a slight deflection on the way.

BURNLEY: Heaton, Clarke, Wilson, Younger, Koiki, Duke-McKenna (Bayode 64), Nabi, Benson, Chakwana, McNeil, Kroma (Massanka 58).

Subs; Stone, Cropper, Jackson.
