The Clarets' Development squad were edged out 2-1 at Colne this afternoon.
Nicky Law stepped in alongside Jonathan Pepper to take the team, with Michael Duff and Andy Farrell absent.
The Clarets dominated the early stages of the game and came close through Marley Blair, the attacker racing down the wing before cutting inside and seeing his effort rattle off the crossbar.
Shortly after, Scott Wilson rose highest in the area and nodded the ball just wide of the post from Josh Benson’s corner.
Colne then had their first chance of the afternoon, Alex Curran found time and space just outside the box, before blazing the ball over the bar.
However, the home side did take the lead when Higham slotted the ball home past the Clarets’ trialist goalkeeper.
It didn’t take long for a Burnley equaliser, however, as Massanka smashed a header home from Benson’s corner.
The Clarets then had a chance to take the lead just before the break, Tinashe Chakwana’s effort cleared off the line from a free-kick, before being cleared.
Burnley made eight changes to the side for the second half, with only Chakwana, Benson and Cropper surviving.
And in a much quieter second half for both sides, there were no real chances until 20 minutes to go.
Colne substitute Knox, picked up the ball from 25 yards out and rifled it into the top corner past a stranded Adam Bruce in the Clarets’ goal.
Although Burnley pushed for an equaliser, the hosts held on and resisted late pressure from the Clarets.
