Burnley U18’s will be heading to the English Football Association’s National Football centre tomorrow (Satuday) as they look to bring their pre-season schedule to a close.
The Clarets will be competing in a four-team tournament which includes Derby County, Brighton & Hove Albion and Rangers.
Danny Cadermarteri’s side beat local side Padiham 3-0 on Tuesday evening, this tournament will be their final warm up matches as they kick off their campaign next weekend (11th August) where they host Charlton Athletic.
Assistant manager John Townson said “We have had a really positive pre-season so far and have put in some very good performances, the group is coming together nicely and is displaying a lot of the work on the training field in matches”
“It will be nice to finish off with a tournament against a high standard of opposition at a fabulous venue, experiences like these are invaluable for the players learning to play in competitive games and pressurised situations where one goal can put you through or knock you out”
Townson added “We will continue looking at transferring the work on the training pitch into the performances and there’s a trophy at the end of the day up for grabs so we will go there and look to win it!”
All teams will play each other at least once, then either play in a final or 3rd/4th place playoff match. If the two sides draw it will go to penalties and in the final the match will go to ‘Golden Goal’ if the scores are still level, before a penalty a shoot-out if it is still a draw.
