The Clarets’ development squad ended a successful pre-season pre-training camp with a 3-1 loss against a strong Wolves side at the Midlanders’ Compton Park training ground.
Burnley had the ball in the back of the net early on through youth striker Michael Fowler, who followed up Josh Benson’s effort and tapped home, only to see his effort ruled out for offside.
Tinashe Chakwana came close shortly after, his header from Marley Blair’s cross sailing just over the bar.
But three Wolves goals in quick succession from Paul Gladon, Jordon Graham and Michal Zyro put the Midlands’ side ahead at the break.
Tunde Bayode went close to pulling one back early in the second half with a strike that went just over but the wideman did find the net at the second time of asking after finishing off a neat move with a cool finish inside the box.
With minutes to go Jordan Cropper blazed the ball over from close range as the Clarets were unable to close the gap further.
But despite ending the week with a defeat, it’s been a productive few days away for the Clarets’ youngsters, who were based at the National Sports Centre at Lilleshall.
The trip included a 4-1 win over Walsall, training and team-bonding sessions and a day’s activities at RAF Shawbury.
The Clarets have one final training-ground friendly next Tuesday before starting their U23 Development League programme next weekend.
