The Clarets will play away to League One side Burton Albion in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
Burnley’s qualification for the Europa League earned them a bye into the last-32 round.
And Thursday night’s draw paired Sean Dyche’s men with the team managed by Nigel Clough – formerly a young player at Nottingham Forest alongside Dyche and assistant boss Ian Woan.
Burnley have played the Brewers, relegated from the Championship last season but who knocked out Aston Villa in round two, twice before in cup football.
The Clarets knocked Burton out of the League Cup with a 6-3 home win in August 2011, seven months after beating the Staffordshire club 3-1 at Turf Moor in the FA Cup.
This will therefore be a first trip for Burnley to the Pirelli Stadium, with the third-round ties will be played in the week beginning 24 September.
