Michael Duff’s U23s continued their good form, following up Monday’s victory over Coventry City with a 3-0 win at Oakwell against Barnsley.
Three goals in five minutes from the Clarets in the second half ensured all three points for the visitors.
Second half substitution Jordan Cropper got the first, before Tinashe Chakwana bagged a brace in three minutes to seal the Tykes’ fate.
The first half was a very even matched affair, neither team creating any real chances.
Victor Adeboyejo came close for the home side with 20 minutes gone, curling an effort just wide of the post.
The Clarets’ best chance of the half came when the ball fell into the path of Chakwana, whose effort was cleared off the line by Barnsley’s Sam Fielding.
Burnley came out the blocks in the second half and looked a different side.
Duff then introduced Cropper and Christian N’guessan with 20 minutes to go, and the former made an instant impact with a cross/shot into the area that curled into the top corner, over the stranded trialist in goal.
Two minutes later , Burnley had their second of the afternoon. Chakwana latched onto Massanka’s flick on before bursting through on goal and dinking it over the Tykes’ keeper.
And just a couple of minutes later Burnley had their third to put the game out of sight, as Chakwana’s pace left the trialist centre-half trailing in his wake, before slotting home.
The Clarets will look to make it three wins in three on Monday afternoon, where they play Millwall at the Den (2:00pm KO).
