The Clarets look to make it two wins out of two in the Premier League Cup tonight (Thursday) they take on Colchester United’s U23s at Curzon Ashton’s Tameside Stadium (kick-off 7pm).
Michael Duff’s side secured three points from their opening group game with a 4-3 win at Newcastle United.
And Burnley will be looking to follow it up against the U’s to boost their prospects of securing a top-two finish and a place in the knock-out phase of the competition.
“We didn’t make it out of the group last season, so that’s something to aim for. We had a good start at Newcastle and we will be looking to try and follow it up,” said Duff, whose side lost 2-0 in the Professional Development League at Crewe on Monday to slip to bottom spot in the table.
Tonight’s game will be Colchester’s first, with Swansea City – the other side in the four-team group – also still to start their campaign.
Colchester play in the southern section of the same league as the Clarets and have won three of their opening 10 games, including one in their last six.
The U’s play National League South side Oxford City in the FA Cup first round on Saturday, suggesting a youthful line-up for their trip north tonight.
