The Clarets’ U23s are back in action on Thursday night for the first of two games in five days at Curzon Ashton’s Tameside Stadium.
First up, Michael Duff’s side faces Barnsley (kick-off 7pm) with Burnley looking to build on a three-match unbeaten run with a first win in the Professional Development League in six attempts.
That run does include three draws, while the Clarets’ last outing at Curzon Ashton saw them beat Colchester United 4-0 in the Premier League Cup with a hat-trick of Nahki Wells.
With the fit-again Wells now in first-team contention and Dean Marney among the senior players getting a run-out in a training-ground game on Tuesday, Duff is likely to be picking purely from his development squad for the visit of the Tykes.
Barnsley – coached by former Scunthorpe midfielder Paul Harsley – are fourth in the northern section with five wins from 12 games.
The Clarets then return to the Tameside Stadium next Monday night for the visit of Bolton Wanderers.
