Waiting Nearly Over

Pre-season just a week away as Clarets plans for new season

27 June 2017

The countdown is on with just over a week to go until the Clarets are back!

Manager Sean Dyche brings his players into work for the start of pre-season training in the middle of next week.

And the first-team squad then flies out to Ireland on Monday, 10 July for a week’s training-camp near Dublin.

Dyche will put his players through their paces before the opening pre-season friendly against Shamrock Rovers at their Tallaght Stadium on Friday, 14 July.

It will then be back to the Barnfield Training Centre to continue the build-up towards the new Premier League season, which kicks-off with a trip to Premier League champions Chelsea on Saturday, 12 August (NB: provisional date, dependent on TV selections).

The first friendly in this country will see Dyche split his squad and combine with some Development Squad players to face non-league sides Kidderminster Harriers and Alfreton Town on the same afternoon on Saturday, 22 July.

And the pre-season programme is then tailored towards the big kick-off in London with back-to-back home games against European opposition to finish the public work-outs.

Meanwhile, the Development Squad reports back next Monday to start their pre-season schedule, with no Michael Jolley to oversee preparations for the under-23 side following his move into Swedish football as manager of AFC Eskilstuna.

Existing academy staff will keep the ball rolling as the club moves towards an appointment ahead of a season which will see the under-23s play for the first time in the Professional Development League

Gaining Category Two status will also see the under-18s and under-16s move into new leagues, with the scholars also back to work on Monday, 3 July – including the new intake of first years who will formally sign on this coming Sunday.
