The Clarets’ under-18s face Everton in the climax of the Generali Cee Cup in Prague later today as the competition features its first ever all-English final.
Burnley’s penalty shoot-out win over Turkish side Altinordu in the semi-finals booked Danny Cadamarteri’s side their place in the final at the Dolicek Stadium (kick-off 5.00 BST).
And Everton then overwhelmed Sarajevo 6-0 in their last-four meeting to make it a head-to-head Premier League finale to the 12-team tournament in the Czech Republic.
Both clubs are unbeaten, with Everton drawing one and winning the second of their group games – another 6-0 victory against Hungarian side Gyori – to set up the meeting with Sarajevo, who had beaten Leicester City in the group stage.
The Clarets, meanwhile, beat host club Sparta Prague 1-0 and Canadian outfit Prostars 3-1 before holding their nerve to progress to the final on penalties.
Burnley’s run to the final has been the perfect way for new under-18s boss Danny Cadamarteri to get to know his squad, which includes 13 first-year scholars.
And he now has the chance to bring home some silverware if the Clarets can upset the odds and beat the club where he started his career and made 92 Premier League appearances.
