The proud new owners of the Performance of the Week Award given to Sean Dyche for his side’s landmark win over Manchester City have received ‘their’ trophy from the Burnley boss.
Simon Dowling was the successful bidder in a charity auction to secure the League Managers’ Association award made to Dyche after the Clarets beat the defending Premier League champions 1-0 at Turf Moor in March, 2015 thanks to a stunning George Boyd goal.
Simon, a former Turf Moor season-ticket holder who lives on Jersey, was at the game with son Henry.
And the pair met up with Dyche thanks to their winning bid of £1,250, which has gone to children’s medical research charity Sparks – which is personally supported by the Burnley manager.
Simon and Henry had lunch with Dyche and his first-team squad at their Barnfield Training Centre.
And after a guided tour of the new facility, also watched the players’ complete training session.
It was a memorable day for the life-long Burnley fans, who still get to games when possible to support the Clarets.
“A very special thanks to the manager for taking time out from the players to greet, meet and lunch with us. And so pleased that the money raised has gone to such a worthy charitable cause,” said Simon, who is planning to run the Great North Run in September for Sparks.
