Clarets Ready To Ring In New Year At City

1 January 2017

Sean Dyche is hoping the New Year can signal a change in fortunes for Burnley on the road.

After bagging a six-point festive haul with Turf Moor wins over Middlesbrough and Sunderland, the Clarets kick-start 2017 on Monday with a trip to Manchester City.

So far, the only point Dyche’s men have earned on their travels was a hard-fought point at City’s neighbours, Manchester United, back in October.

But January brings a fresh start – and having remained unbeaten on their two previous visits to the Etihad, the Clarets make the short trip seeking another positive result.

Dyche said: “Everyone has documented our away form, although more our away results, because the last two or three away I think we’ve delivered a decent performance.

“It is a massive challenge of course, going to clubs like Manchester City.

“But in those last two or three games I’ve been pretty pleased with the performance and I think it’s shown good signs of building an away-style performance that can work.

“Can we do it at Man City? We’ll see. It’s a tough challenge, obviously.

“It’s also a different kind of challenge. They are one of the superpowers of the division and we want our fans to come with us and enjoy the occasion.

“Make no mistake though, there’s no bluff and blag about these things; we will be working hard to earn something from the game.

“For us it’s about concentrating on a performance. I thought we did that very well at home and pushed City close to getting something from the game and arguably deserved something.

“It’s a different proposition, of course, going away, but that’s the challenge and we’ll take it on.

Burnley will be without the suspended Dean Marney for the game, although Jeff Hendrick is available again after serving his one match ban on New Year’s Eve.

On-loan defender Jon Flanagan, who missed the 4-1 win over Sunderland with a knee injury sustained in training, will be assessed before the squad travel.
