Sean Dyche has confirmed that Scott Arfield and Johann Berg Gudmundsson are likely to miss this weekend’s Premier League match against Southampton at Turf Moor.
The pair came off with injuries during the second half of the FA Cup third round tie at Sunderland on Saturday.
But the Clarets’ boss will be boosted by the return of wide man George Boyd and defender Jon Flanagan.
“The two lads that came off – Scotty and Johann, we’re hopeful and quite positive that the news from the scans will reveal nothing too major, but I’d be very surprised if they made it this weekend,” said Dyche.
“George and Jon are okay. They just had knocks and Ashley Barnes had a knock too but I’m expecting them to be back for the game and they certainly will train today.”
Boyd missed the 0-0 draw at the Stadium of Light last weekend whilst Flanagan has been absent since the 1-0 win against Middlesbrough on Boxing Day.
Despite the injuries, Dyche is pleased with the options at his disposal and the camaraderie within the squad.
“The depth of competition in the squad is good and there’s a healthy respect in the group,” the manager said.
“I pick my starting 11 and make it clear to lads who aren’t in the team that we respect everything that they’re doing and I think that was on show with a decent performance last week against Sunderland.”
