Dyche Salutes Supporters

16 December 2017

Sean Dyche has paid tribute to the supporters for playing their part in the Clarets’ stunning start to the season.

Burnley fans will again travel in their numbers to Brighton today, as their side look to add to the 31 points amassed in the opening 17 games.

That has put Dyche’s side joint fourth in the Premier League, their highest position in the standings since 1975.

The gaffer said: “I believe in the group, but I’m always realistic and being joint fourth was a big ask, when you look at the fixtures when they came out.

“But every credit to the players and my staff because they have played a big part in that, as have the fans home and away.

“They know they have a team that will give its all and they back that and stay positive. That definitely helps the team, especially in the Premier League because it’s tough.

“When there’s a lull in a game, it makes a massive difference if they get behind the players.

“Away from home, especially, the fans have been different class. When you travel away on these long journeys, and at this time of the year with all the expense involved, there is that extra bit of respect and we thank them.”

Newly-promoted Brighton are without a win in six games, but are already showing signs of coming to terms with the league.

And Dyche knows his players are in for another test of their credentials as they look for a south coast treble, following away wins this season at both Southampton and Bournemouth.

He added: “I am a big fan of Chris Hughton. He’s a great fella and always honest in his assessment and professionalism.

“He has a group of players who took a big knock the season we went up and they bounced right back to get themselves in the Premier League, so we know this is a tough game, but I remind everyone, all teams in this division deserve to be there.

“They nicked a couple of good results early on and I saw them recently at Manchester United, when they lost but played well

“I know they are no mugs and so do my players. They’ve had a tricky run of results lately, but that can happen in this league and we certainly don’t take what we’ve done recently for granted.”
