Lowton and Mee launch town’s popular Asda Foundation 10K

12 April 2017

One of Lancashire’s premier 10Ks got off to a Premier League start when Burnley FC stars turned out to kick off the countdown to race day!

Donning t-shirts in support of Team Burnley FC in the Community, Burnley FC stars Matt Lowton and Ben Mee helped to launch the popular local event. For the second year running, Burnley FC in the Community are a partner charity of the event and have FREE spaces available for fundraisers who want to take part on Sunday 4th June.

A new route – starting and finishing in Towneley Park – was introduced last year and proved a big success. Participants will take another run at this course in 2017.

Runners have a flat and fast start and will run along the bottom of the Park’s Events Triangle before heading along Hall Road and turning right after the Stables Café. They’ll then follow the tree-lined causeway out of the park for a long downhill section along Todmorden Road.

The route then levels out to cross Harry Potts Way at Turf Moor, and follows Belvedere Road to the fire station before turning left into Thompson Park. The course follows the picturesque paths taking in the beautiful Boating Lake and Italian Gardens.

Runners leave Thompson Park at Queen Victoria Road then head up Queens Park Road, taking in further parkland then down Ormerod Road to meet Belvedere Road again and the flat and triumphant return to Towneley Park.

Siobhán McNamara, Marketing and Partnerships Manager, Burnley FC in the Community, said: “We’re delighted to be a partner charity of the Burnley 10K once again this year! Fundraising events like this are key to supporting our charitable work in the local area – work that touches the lives of over 20,000 people every year. We’d love as many people as possible to join our team and help us continue to make a difference in our community.”

Registration for the event is FREE with Burnley FC in the Community and volunteers are simply asked to fundraise what they can to support our charitable work.
