Youths Extend Unbeaten Start In Six-Goal Thriller

5 September 2016

The Clarets youth team maintained their unbeaten start following a six-goal thriller against Shrewsbury.

Three times the young Clarets came from behind to earn a share of the spoils, with goals from  RJ Pingling, Tristan Jumeau and Tommy Wood (pictured, above).

And that spirit provided another huge positive for Michael Duff, who has yet to taste defeat since taking charge of the Youths this summer.

An absorbing game at the Barnfield Training Centre saw the visitors get off to the best possible start, as John McAtee beat Connor King from 25 yards to open the scoring.

Burnley looked to have replied minutes later as Tyler Shrimpton fired at goal, but his effort was just blazed just over.

However, the home side did reply as Olatunde Baydoe cut inside and played a pass into Pingling, who pulled off a shot inside the box finding the bottom corner to level matters.

Only a few minutes after the Clarets equalised, Shrewsbury took the lead again as Ofori nodded the ball down into the path of McAtee, who slotted home his second of the game.

It was the Clarets who emerged from the break with their foot on the gas though, as Pingling squared the ball across goal - after working terrifically to get the ball upfield – for Jumeau to smash home the second equaliser.

After end-to-end attacking football from both sides, it was the Shrews who looked to have struck a late winner as star man McAtee’s shot deflected into the path of George Hassell, who tapped home.

However, in a game dripping with goals, there was no backing down from the young Clarets as Wood sparked a run outside the box before finding the bottom corner with an excellent shot to bag a dramatic third leveller.
