Sam Vokes is expecting a ‘rocking atmosphere’ at the Cardiff City Stadium tonight as Wales begin their FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign against Moldova.
The Clarets striker was a key part of the squad that impressed at the European Championships in the summer, scoring in the Quarter Final against Belgium.
But Vokes, who is expected to lead the line for Chris Coleman's side, insists that will now have to be put aside as they look to book their place in Russia for the 2018 tournament.
He said: “The goal now is to qualify. It’s probably the first time we’ve ever gone into a campaign with that mentality and it’s different. We’re top seeds and teams are more likely to come at us.
“I’m sure the stadium will be absolutely rocking. Moldova are no mugs and we’ll have to work hard to break them down. They’ll probably try and sit in pretty deep.
“I’ve watch that goal against Belgium a few times! It already feels like a lifetime ago.
“We have great memories, but now it’s onwards and upwards. We have a big game on Monday and we have to put the Euro’s to one side.”
