Clarets club-record signing Jeff Hendrick featured for the Republic of Ireland last night as they recorded a 4-0 friendly win over Oman in Dublin.
The midfielder was introduced at half-time alongside Stephen Ward in place of Glenn Whelan and Robbie Brady respectively.
Both played 45 minutes each as Robbie Keane was on target in his farewell fixture, with the strike taking him level with legendary German forward Gerd Muller on 68 international goals.
Goals from Robbie Brady and a brace from man of the match Jon Walters saw Martin O’Neill’s men ease to victory ahead of their first Group D qualifier on Monday against Serbia.
Elsewhere, Steven Defour could be in action tonight as Roberto Martinez’s Belgium side take on Spain at King Baudouin Stadium, Brussels in a 7.45pm kick-off.
The Red Devils then face Cyprus in their first 2018 World Cup qualifier on Tuesday 6 September.
Scott Arfield is likely to play in Canada’s 2018 World Cup qualifier against Honduras on Friday 2 September (10pm UK time).
Clarets skipper Tom Heaton is also involved in the England squad for Sam Allardyce’s first game in charge of the Three Lions.
They travel to Slovakia on Sunday 4 September in Group F at the City Arena, Trnava.
