Johann Berg Gudmundsson has been named in the Iceland squad to face Ukraine on Monday 5 September.
Iceland enjoyed a hugely successful UEFA European Championship campaign, reaching the Quarter Finals before being knocked out by hosts France.
Gudmundsson started all of Iceland’s games in the tournament and provided an assist for Birkir Bjarnason in the 1-1 draw against Portugal during the group stages.
They head into their first World Cup qualifier in Group I at the Kiev Olympic Stadium under the sole management of Heimir Hallgrímsson.
Hallgrimsson worked alongside Lars Lagerbäck during the Euros but with the latter retiring, he has taken full control as they look to build on a magnificent achievement in France.
