Defour makes appearance in Belgium defeat

2 September 2016

Steven Defour made a late substitute appearance for Belgium as they fell to a 2-0 defeat against Spain in Brussels.

The Clarets midfielder replaced Manchester City’s Kevin de Bruyne on 87 minutes for his first appearance of the Red Devils since 2014, when he played in the 1-1 draw against Bosnia.

David Silva struck twice in what was Roberto Martinez’s first game in charge since replacing Marc Wilmots as head coach.

Martinez has added Arsenal legend Thierry Henry to his coaching staff and they will be hoping to hit the ground running in 2018 World Cup qualifying.

They face Cyprus on Tuesday 6 September in Nicosia.
