A Day In The Life Of A Mascot!

29 September 2016

Josh McLean, a member of our FREE Young Clarets scheme, was the lucky winner of the Leicester City away mascot package.

Josh, 7, is a huge fan of his beloved Burnley FC, however Dad Nathan decided to keep his entry into the draw quiet.

“We didn’t want him to get his hopes up too much but when Josh found out he was going to be a mascot, he was over the moon.

"He immediately started to get excited, deciding which kit he would wear to walk out with his heroes!” explained Nathan.

Josh opted to wear his treasured Claret and Blue to the King Power Stadium on the morning of the game, excited for the once-in-a-lifetime experience that lay ahead.

“When we arrived at the ground, we were given a full behind-the-scenes ground tour, which ended on the pitch.

"We were in awe of the size and facilities of the stadium!” added Nathan.

As the Burnley squad arrived at the ground, Josh welcomed the team, high-fiving the players and management as they entered the tunnel and changing rooms.

He followed them in, with his football in hand as the first team chatted with the youngster and signed the ball.

As the BFC pre-match rituals started for the team, Josh and Dad Nathan headed out onto the pitch for a kick-about with Filbert Fox, Leicester City’s mascot, as crowds started to fill the 32,000+ capacity stadium.

While entertaining the crowds, Josh even managed to steal a picture with Leicester’s very own Jamie Vardy!

“Josh was soaking up the atmosphere but knew the biggest moment was yet to come, where he was going to lead the team out in front of thousands, holding the hand of his hero, Tom Heaton,” explained Nathan.

Josh took his place next to the Burnley captain, with crowds anticipating the team’s entry onto the pitch.

As he proudly walked out of the tunnel, Josh heard the roar of the 31,916 fans and proceeded to line up with the teams, shaking hands with the Premier League champions.

“This is an experience Josh (and I!) will never forget. We had such a great experience thanks to the Leicester City staff, who really looked after us.

"None of this would have been possible without Burnley FC in the Community – so huge thanks to them for providing this opportunity to lucky Young Clarets members!” said Nathan.
