Have you ever wondered what it would be like to play at the first team training ground?
If the answer is ‘yes’ and you have a real desire to progress through our genuine player pathway, then head down to the Shadow Youth Team trials at Barnfield Training Centre on Wednesday 1st June!
What is the Shadow Youth Team?
Burnley FC in the Community and Nelson & Colne College have joined forces to create the BFC Shadow Youth Team. This exciting programme gives talented young players – aged between the ages of 16 and 18 – the chance to combine academic studies with practical football experience. The programme is designed to bridge the gap between grass roots and academy football.
Shadow Youth Team players will train daily and play on a competitive basis – an experience that mirrors that of football academies nationwide; academies that SYT players may themselves progress onto. In addition to football training, players will also complete a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport with the support and guidance of the highly-skilled teaching staff at Nelson & Colne College.
The Shadow Youth Team First Team plays in the PLFL. This is a league as close to academy football as it is possible to play in, as the league is accessible solely to Premier League and Football League Clubs. Each league hosts a demanding, high standard of football and aims to act as a vehicle for players to progress onto the Burnley FC’s Academy, Under 18s Youth Team, Under 21 Development Squad or even the Burnley FC’s First Team.
We provide players with the skills required to help them progress to a higher standard of both education and football, as well as the necessary experience to work in community football coaching and other areas within the sports industry. Players will also receive training in football coaching, (leading to FA Coaching badges) emergency aid and safeguarding issues and practice. All players are provided with Burnley Football Club training kit, which is provided free of charge.
All courses are staffed by fully qualified professionals, both on and off the field. This allows flexibility for students to choose from a combination of pathways to match their ability, aptitude, interests and aspirations.
The BFC Shadow Youth Team is a fantastic opportunity for young people keen to develop their talent on the football pitch and find a route into a career in football coaching, the leisure/sports industry or university.
