Tom Heaton has spoken of his delight at being named in Roy Hodgson’s provisional 26-man squad for the UEFA Euro 2016 finals in France.
The Clarets goalkeeper has enjoyed another remarkable campaign, keeping 20 clean sheets on the way to the Sky Bet Championship title as captain.
Not since Colin McDonald in the 1958 World Cup have Burnley had a player make an appearance in a major tournament for The Three Lions.
And Heaton says he will give everything he has got, every day to make sure he is involved moving forward.
He said: “I’m delighted to be a part of it with the warm-up games we’ve got coming up and the next step is to try and make sure I’m definitely in that final 23 when it’s chosen.
“It’s always a great honour to be called up for your country and I’ll give everything I’ve got, every single day to try and be involved in France.
“I’m told it’s a long time since Burnley had a player make an England appearance at a major tournament and he was a keeper too, so it’s great to be spoken about in that bracket.
“It’s something you dream of growing up as a kid and after winning the league this season on the domestic front, which was top draw the way we went about it, it’s fantastic to be involved with England again with a real chance of going to the finals.”
