Joey Barton described his teammates as the greatest group of human beings he has ever worked with after scooping Player of the Year.
Barton was voted as the Champions best performer by supporters in the club’s online poll after a magnificent season at the heart of midfield.
But he was quick to heap praise on the rest of the squad when he took to the stage to collect his award.
He said: “This is the greatest group of humans beings I’ve ever been involved with.
“Personally, I’ve just done what I’ve done but Ben Mee - outstanding, Tom Heaton – different class and one of the best captains I’ve played with, Andre Gray – 24 goals, 9 assists.
“I don’t deserve this because it’s about the collective of people. It’s not about me and I’d go through brick walls for every single one of them.
“I could be here all night but my voice has gone from singing the Alouette but seriously, thank you to you all.”
