Keane Fitness Boost For Clarets

3 March 2016

Sean Dyche insists he has a big decision to make after Michael Keane declared himself fit for the weekend clash with Blackburn Rovers at Turf Moor.

Defender Keane has missed the last two games after picking up a head injury in the Turf Moor victory over Rotherham United.

January signing James Tarkowski, who replaced Keane against the Millers, deputised admirably in the ensuing wins at home to Nottingham Forest and away at Bolton Wanderers.

And the Clarets boss much now choose as he eyes a fourth straight league win against Rovers in Saturday’s showdown.

Dyche confirmed: “Michael is certainly up for selection. He’s had a good week with us and is feeling well, so he’s joined in training as normal.

“It does give me a decision because I’ve been delighted with how James has come in and performed.

“I was a centre half once and it can be a difficult position to come into, and he’s delivered really good performances.

“But ‘Keano’ has done well for a longer period and he’s back fit, so it’s down to me now to decide.”

Midfielder Dean Marney is also on the cusp of a return to the squad after coming through a midweek training game unscathed.

However, Lloyd Dyer is unlikely to make the squad as he too closes in on full fitness following his recent arrival at Turf Moor.

Dyche said: “It’ll be touch and go for Dean, who played 60 minutes the other day.

“He’s fine, but we have to add to his games programme because what was a niggly injury turned into a five or six weeker, so we have to be sensible with that.

“Michael Duff also came through and Lloyd got a game in too, but he’s still as little bit short, although he’s getting that sharpness back.

“So we have a healthy mixture of options of players at the moment and we look forward to having them all fit for the final part of the season.”
