Barton: We're On Track!

6 March 2016

Joey Barton insisted Burnley remain “on track” after completing the league double over Blackburn at fever-pitch Turf Moor.

The combative midfielder put in a man-of-the-match display as the Clarets built on their stunning recent form with a ninth win in 12 unbeaten games.

And Barton was delighted as Andre Gray’s goal proved enough to win the East Lancashire derby.

He told Sky Sports: “There are many different ways to win football match and I think you have to give Blackburn an awful lot of credit.

“Since Paul Lambert has come in they seem to have turned a corner and they made life very difficult for us.

“It’s important for the fans and the bragging rights. But for us, in the build-up to it all, it’s just been about another team in our way.

“We set our sights early on in the season and what we want to achieve and obviously we needed to get three points at Turf Moor today in order to keep on track.”

Burnley travel to Fulham on Tuesday looking to cement their position at the Championship summit.

He added: “We’ll enjoy this moment for five or 10 minutes in the dressing room and then we’re on to Tuesday night.”

“We have to just keep controlling what’s in our means. We have a tough game on Tuesday and this game owes you nothing, as the gaffer keeps saying.”
