Barnes Closes In On First Team Return

18 March 2016

Ashley Barnes is closing in on a return to the Clarets squad - ahead of the visit to former club Brighton and Hove Albion.

The striker is set to play his second full 90 minutes in today’s Development Squad game at Aston Villa.

And Barnes, who has been sidelined from first team action after suffering a serious knee injury on the final day of the Premier League season, could be set to hand the Clarets a timely boost for the run-in following in after the international break.

Boss Sean Dyche confirmed: “Ashley had his first 90 full minutes earlier this week and we are getting more game time into him, so he is getting closer.

“We’ll see how he goes over the next couple of weeks, but Brighton is a former club of his and it could be around that time when he comes back.

“We are mainly focusing on him being well in himself. When he gets that right, the rest will start looking after itself.”

Fellow striker Lukas Jutkiewicz has also resumed full training after suffering a similar injury earlier this season at Bristol City.

Meanwhile, Chris Long will not feature for the Development Squad at Villa today after picking up a hamstring injury that will sideline him for several weeks. Ntumba Massanka features after being recalled from his loan spell at York.

Burnley (v Villa) 1pm Friday: Nizic, Jackson, hill, Yao, Birch, Olomowewe, Green, Wilson, Barnes, Massanka, Gilchrist.
Subs: Agyei, Chakwana, King
