It was delight for all three Clarets at UEFA Euro 2016 as Stephen Ward and Republic of Ireland progressed on Wednesday night after beating Italy 1-0.
Ireland knew they had to take maximum points to go through to the last 16 and did so in dramatic circumstances with Robbie Brady’s late header.
Ward played the full 90 minutes in the game as Martin O’Neill’s men went through as one of the four best-placed third teams to set up a meeting with hosts France on Sunday.
The full-back joins teammates Sam Vokes and Tom Heaton in the knockout stages of the tournament.
Vokes played the full 90 minutes as Wales beat Russia 3-0 to top Group B on Monday night, while Heaton was an unused substitute as England’s 0-0 draw with Slovakia saw them progress.
Wales will now face Northern Ireland on Saturday 25th June and England will now face Iceland in their last 16 fixture on Monday 27th June at Stade de Nice (8pm BST).
Congratulations to all three from everyone at Burnley Football Club.
