Vokes Seals Historic Wales Win

1 July 2016

Sam Vokes’ inch-perfect header clinched Wales’ place in the UEFA Euro 2016 semi-final in a historic 3-1 win over Belgium in Lille.

The Clarets striker replaced goalscorer Hal Robson-Kanu on 80 minutes and six minutes later, he left Thibaut Courtois with no chance from Chris Gunter’s cross.

Radja Nainggolan had given Belgium the lead with a ferocious 25-yard drive but captain Ashley Williams headed in from a corner to level the scores in a breathless first-half.

Hal Robson-Kanu’s superb turn and clinical finish put Chris Coleman’s men ahead before Vokes sealed a spot against Portugal in the semi-final and in doing so became the first ever Burnley player to score in a
European Championships.

Congratulations to Sam and Wales from everyone at Burnley Football Club.
