Robinson Loving Life At Turf Moor

28 January 2016

Paul Robinson insists he has enjoyed his first week at Burnley after joining until the end of the season.

The experienced goalkeeper signed on a free after taking some time away from playing, following his release from Blackburn Rovers.

And the former England international admits he is just enjoying being back on the training pitch.

He said: “It’s nice to be back among it and back on the grass training. I had my first taste of a game the other day as well and you can tell from the atmosphere around here, it’s a club that’s going places.

“The manager’s got a really good bunch together. I spent an hour or so with him the other day and he told me what he expected, what he wants around the place and you can see that.

“There’s a dressing room full of players who are willing to work and play for the manager.”

Robinson, who made almost 200 appearances for Blackburn Rovers, also reiterated that it was a “no-brainer” making the short trip across East Lancashire and sign for the Clarets.

However he did admit that he’s suffered a backlash from Rovers fans over the move - and doesn’t think Arsenal fans will give him an easy ride either, having formerly played for Tottenham Hotspur!

He laughed: “First one (game) away and we’re at Arsenal; that’s another set of fans that like me! So it could be an interesting one.”

The 36-year-old made his first appearance for Burnley in the Development Squad game against Rochdale on Tuesday, keeping a clean sheet.

And the veteran insists he is happy to help the other goalkeepers at the club improve.

He joked: “I think I was a bit old for the Under 21’s, but it’s nice to be playing again and it’s a while since I played a competitive game.

“I’ve done a lot of training but it was nice to put the kit on again and get on the pitch.

“I’ll do as much as I can while I’m here; help the young lad and give Tom (Heaton) a bit of help when he wants it and it’ll just be nice to be on the training ground among those lads to pass on what I can, when I can.”
