Burnley FC in the Community has launched a brand new initiative called Magic Memories, as part of the charity’s Extra Time project.
Magic Memories looks to engage all five senses to recapture memories from the past. The initiative will be incorporated into the weekly Extra Time sessions that currently run at Turf Moor.
Extra Time is a programme that aims to reduce social isolation and loneliness in the over 50s.
To kick start Magic Memories, Burnley FC in the Community staff provided participants with a black and white photo, dating from 1960.
Depicting the victorious Burnley FC team of the time aboard the Champions bus; the image brought back many blissful memories to the Extra Time participants.
Jim Collin (68) who joined Extra Time earlier this month said of the session; “It was fantastic remembering how the football club was, and how old I was when this photo was taken. I remember this moment as clear as day but it is something I haven’t thought about for many years. It brought me delight”.
Magic Memories will be introduced to the Extra Time project on a monthly basis. Future sessions will include music, food and clothing memories amongst others.
The Extra Time sessions occur every Wednesday from 10am - 12pm in the 1882 lounge at Turf Moor.
