Danny Ings Disability Sport Project Expands With Help From Children in Need

5 January 2016

Burnley FC in the Community have successfully secured an impressive grant from Children in Need to expand the charity’s thriving disability sport provision.

Burnley FC’s official charity have been awarded almost £57,000 to deliver both impairment-specific evening sports sessions and pan-disability holiday sports camps over the next three years.

The Danny Ings Disability Sport Project already offers a pan-disability, multi-sports curriculum that engages with hundreds of disabled young people every week, and the new funding will look to build on this.

The impairment-specific sessions will offer non-competitive sporting activities for people in Burnley and the surrounding areas and will be tailored to their specific disabilities. Sessions will be available for those with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Visual Impairments (VI), Physical Impairments (ambulant) and Physical Impairments (wheelchair users).

The Sports Camps will be available during holiday periods and will offer free, recreational day-time sporting activity for all local disabled people to attend and enjoy.

Neil Hart, CEO of Burnley FC in the Community believes the awarding of the grant is a testament to the charity’s achievements so far in the area of disability sports; “We founded our disability sports programme just over a year ago with the Danny Ings Disability Sport Project. With Danny’s help, and the unwavering passion and commitment of the team, the area is going from strength to strength. This new funding from Children in Need will enable us to expand on our existing provision, and allow us to continue to offer totally bespoke provision that is meaningful and empowering to the people we work with.”

The impairment-specific sessions will start from January 2016. For more information on the Danny Ings Disability Sport Project at Burnley FC in the Community, please contact Matt Pounder at or call 01282 704716.
