Clarets Look Into Loan Market After Gilks Injury

22 January 2016

Burnley will look to sign a goalkeeper on loan after Matt Gilks picked up an elbow injury in training that will rule him out for 'several weeks'.

Former Blackpool stopper Gilks suffered the setback ahead of the trip to Brentford, where young Aussie Danijel Nizic took his place on the bench.

And now that scans have now revealed the extent of the damage, boss Sean Dyche admits he is looking to bring in experienced cover.

The gaffer said: “Matt made a big save in training and has wrenched the ligaments around his elbow.

“At first we thought it was a really serious one, but we’re pleased that, probably because of his strength, it won’t be long-term.

“However, he certainly won’t be fit for a couple or three weeks, we’ll see how that develops, so that means we will be looking around to see what in the market as cover.

“We like our young keepers, but they are still very young, so we will look at a loan.”

Dyche also revealed that midfielder Dean Marney, who has missed the last five games with a calf injury, is available for selection for Monday’s Turf Moor clash with Derby County.

He said: “I’m pleased to say Dean Marney has come through a good few days’ training now and looks fine.”
