Boardroom Notes: Derby County

25 January 2016

Mike Garlick raises a toast to what has been a happy new year!

Good evening everyone and welcome to Turf Moor for tonight’s big Championship game against Derby County.

It’s certainly a welcome return, given that our two FA Cup ties in January, the fabulous win at Middlesbrough and the reward of a trip to Arsenal next weekend, have added to a month of lengthy road trips.

I’d like to start by saying a word of thanks to all the Burnley supporters who have backed the club in numbers this month.

Well over 3,000 in total made the arduous journeys to ‘Boro, MK Dons and Brentford, with over 1,000 journeying to London for the latter of those games on a Friday night, despite the game being live on television. A wonderful effort.

And it was also great to see you all rewarded with three successive away wins that have really kick started 2016 for us.

Wouldn’t it be terrific to continue that sequence tonight against one of the teams fancied by many pundits to earn promotion the Premier League next season?

Of course, we too have that aim, and I am sure we’re all in for a very exciting second half of the season.

Beyond that, the club has again looked to retain and even expand the supporter base with our newly-announced season ticket package for the 2016/17 season.

I’m delighted that we have again been able to freeze the prices, whatever league we find ourselves in – and that, we feel, represents genuine value for money.

My fellow directors and I fully appreciate the economic situation in Burnley and we never, ever take your support for granted.

I am particularly proud that we can again offer heavily discounted tickets for the U12s and free tickets to Under 10s, because these are the fans of the future and we should be doing all we can to encourage them to come down to Turf Moor and enjoy the

Finally, the 12-month direct debit scheme introduced for the first time, also allows fans to spread the cost with no additional fees or charges.

Right, enough of the sales pitch, and onto the small matter of the January transfer window.

There’s a frantic week left of wheeling and dealing to be done, and Sean and his recruitment team have been busy all month trying to make things happen.

This window is always the trickiest and, in many cases, there’s a domino effect that takes place that, along with all manner of brinksmanship, can take things right to the wire.

But as I write, you can be assured we are supporting Sean in his efforts to add to the squad and no stone will be left unturned in that quest.

Thanks for your support
