Burnley FC In The Community Player Development Centre

20 January 2016

At Burnley FC in the Community, a large amount of value is placed on the development of local young people and the talent they possess.

Through this, we aim to provide excellent footballing opportunities for those who show outstanding potential.

The aim of the Player Development Centre (PDC) is to provide a professional coaching environment in which to develop the techniques, skills and tactical awareness of talented players, allowing for the individuals to reach their full potential on the pitch.

This development is facilitated through regular training sessions, delivered by highly qualified coaches with a wealth of experience within the elite game. Training takes the format of age-appropriate activities, designed to optimise the successful acquisition of desired returns and game-related practices that allow for growth of a player’s game craft.

The PDC encompasses 3 squads generated by age…
• Year 7-8
• Year 9-10
• Year 11

The squads will compete in regular fixtures and competitions against teams from across the region, providing players with an opportunity to showcase their ability further in a competitive, fast paced environment.

The PDC works closely with the Burnley FC Academy and both initiatives share the same philosophy, work ethos and training syllabus. The PDC will support the infrastructure of the Academy by providing a mirrored centre, in which the Academy can track and identify talented players, and also, compete against, in regular fixtures.

The seamless link with the Academy, will allow for a fully integrated performance pathway to be access by exceptionally gifted PDC players.

Scouts from the Academy will observe players who are referred to them by their PDC Head Coach and make a judgement based on a player’s performance throughout training and/or during matches.

The PDC will run for a block of 12 weeks at a time. Throughout this period, players will take part in 90 minute training sessions on an outdoor, full-size 3G pitch. At the end of each block of training sessions, players will be given a personalised, constructive report, based upon their performances and developments.
