Burnley FC in the Community staff welcomed 160 Riverside Junior School pupils to Turf Moor last week.
The club’s official charity invited the school down as a gesture of support in the wake of the Boxing Day floods that devastated the school’s ground floor classrooms. Staff from Burnley FC in the Community had seen first-hand the destruction caused by the water during a recent visit with Burnley FC striker Lukas Jutkiewicz.
Matt Hargreaves, Head of Education at Burnley FC in the Community said; “After seeing how the floods have made the day-to-day so difficult for the staff and pupils at Riverside Junior School and knowing we were in a position to help – if even for just one day – we wanted to reach out and show our support. It was great to welcome to the school to the Turf and we really hope they enjoyed their visit!”
The pupils were treated to a ground tour of the stadium, a mini Olympics session with Burnley FC in the Community sports coaches and a healthy eating workshop with the charity’s health team.
