Community Host Turf Moor Dementia Cafe

14 December 2016

Last Wednesday afternoon saw the successful launch of the Dementia Café held here at Turf Moor. The event which was delivered by Alzheimer’s Society North West saw local carers and those living with dementia join Burnley FC in the Community staff in the Jimmy McIlroy Stand for an afternoon of refreshments and activities.

In keeping with the time of year there were plenty of festive activities on offer including a Christmas carol sing-a-long, accompanied by two trumpeters, and Wiltshire Farm Foods in Haslingden popped along with 100 generously donated, delicious mince pies.

Abby Turner, Health and Wellbeing Manager at Burnley FC in the Community, said: ‘It was fantastic to see so many members of the local community join us at the launch of our Dementia Café. The afternoon was a great success and we look forward to the sessions continuing to grow and develop.’

Nikky Cassidy-Heafield, Service Manager for Pennine Lancashire Alzheimer’s Society said: ‘We’re thrilled with how well the Dementia Café launch at Turf Moor went. We’re really pleased to be working with Burnley FC in the Community on this project.’

The café is due to run on the first Wednesday of every month from 1pm – 3pm. It’s open to all carers and people living with dementia.
