Burnley’s Development Squad recorded a convincing 4-0 win over Middlesbrough U23s at the Barnfield Training Centre on Tuesday afternoon.
Lukas Jutkiewicz was the star of the show with a hat-trick; one of several senior players who featured for the Clarets ahead of this Saturday’s Premier League opener against Swansea City.
Rouwen Hennings was also on the scoresheet as Burnley’s strikers cashed in on their team’s dominance and the Development Squad continued their unbeaten start to pre-season.
Jutkiewicz opened the scoring after just 6 minutes with a glancing header from an excellent cross by Cameron Dummigan. Burnley controlled possession throughout the first half with Aiden O’Neill and Freddie Ulvestad dominating central midfield.
A stream of crosses from Brad Jackson on the right saw Jutkiewicz and Hennings both go close, before Jutkiewicz made it 2-0 just before half-time with a powerful left footed shot following a through ball from the influential Michael Kightly.
Jutkiewicz completed his hat-trick on 54 minutes when he met Arlen Birch’s inswinging cross from the left with a well directed header, and Rouwen Hennings completed the scoring on 75 minutes after a well worked team goal.
