Dyche On A Potential Debut For Defour

18 August 2016

New signing Steven Defour could be in line for his Clarets debut against Liverpool this Saturday at Turf Moor.

The Belgian international midfielder arrived from Anderlecht earlier this week for a club-record fee to bolster Sean Dyche’s ranks.

And with the departure of David Jones to Sheffield Wednesday, that could open the door for a first start for the former Porto man.

When asked during his pre-match press conference about a potential debut, Dyche said: “Possibly. It’s one of things we’ll look at accordingly and he’s certainly a player we’ve been on for a while to bring him in.

“He’s got quality there’s no two ways about that but the adaptation to the Premier League is what we’re looking for because it is different.

“I’ve shown about that in some depth with him but his game understanding having played international football and Champions League football is pretty clear.

“It’s how he adapts to our group and how we want to go into the Premier League and do well.

“He knows it’ll be a challenge for us. He’s not coming here thinking we’ll be rolling around the top three all season and he wants to be a part of that.”

Loan defender Jon Flanagan is unavailable due to the opponents being his parent club, while Ashley Barnes is the only other absentee.

Dyche added: “Ashley Barnes is the one who won’t be available. He’s going along nicely after a hamstring injury but he won’t be fit for the weekend.

“Jon Flanagan can’t play because of his loan agreement and we’re getting him up to speed. He didn’t go on tour with Liverpool and he played three 45 minutes so he needs more pitch time.
