Burnley’s Development Squad drew 1-1 against Port Vale at Gawthorpe on Wednesday afternoon.
Summer signing Daniel Agyei scored the Clarets’ goal, putting the hosts ahead before a Vale goal on the half hour mark restored parity.
This was the second of three fixtures for the Development Squad this week, following a behind-closed-doors fixture on Monday and with another planned at Manchester City on Friday.
And the game exploded into life with four clear chances in the opening 10 minutes.
Jamie Frost got the action rolling in the third minute with an audacious 25-yard strike which cannoned out off the crossbar.
The visitors then had a strike from a similar distance, but the shot was straight at Danijel Nizic in goal.
The chances continued, with defender Alex Whitmore threading a perfect ball through to Agyei, who couldn’t steer the ball past the Vale keeper.
Vale then countered, attacking down the right wing before the midfielder cut inside, shooting straight at Nizic, who parried the effort for a corner.
The game then settled for a period, before the Clarets took the lead.
Jamie Frost and Agyei combined well, with the former playing his strike partner in on goal with an exquisite ball with the outside of his boot for Agyei to coolly slot past the visiting goalkeeper.
Vale levelled on the half hour mark, catching the midfield and defence off guard with a quick free-kick, and the striker finishing clinically into the bottom left corner.
The second half was a period of few chances with the hosts dominating the lions share of possession.
Midfielder Steven Hewitt played in Frost in-on goal, but the forward’s cheeky dink was cleared off the line.
And just before the hour mark the Clarets had the best chance of the half with Agyei again showing his talent, shrugging off several Vale players before the woodwork was again struck from range.
Senior Professional Development Phase Coach Michael Jolley confirmed after the game that some first team players in need of match fitness will feature against Manchester City on Friday.
