Michael Jolley is putting his faith in youth this evening as the Development Squad look to progress against Barnsley in the U21 Premier League cup.
A young Burnley side is expected in the Second Qualifying Round (7pm kick-off) at Turf Moor, against a Barnsley team who have already featured 11 players aged U21 in their first team this season.
And Jolley, the Clarets Senior Professional Development Phase Coach, welcomes the latest challenge, following their first round victory over Wigan at Turf Moor last month.
He said: “We are planning to field a young side to give the younger players an opportunity to test themselves in the competition against a good Barnsley team.
“Barnsley are a category two club, one higher than us, so they are playing in a very competitive games programme against some very good teams.
“A lot of their players will have first team experience because they are a club that promotes young players into their first team, so it will be a very strong test for us.”
The game is open for fans to watch, and Jolley encourages any fan to come along to cheer on the youngsters.
He added: “It was great to get a bit of an atmosphere with people in the stadium two weeks ago against Wigan and the lads delivered them a great performance.
“That is our objective again, mindful that Barnsley will be a really strong test and if the Burnley fans don’t have anything planned for tonight and they come down and give us support, it would be very welcoming.”
However if you're unable to make the game, a match report and live coverage across our social media channels will be provided.
