Work has begun to resurface and extend the Turf Moor playing surface in time for next season.
The annual renovation involves removing the top layer of soil and organic matter, but this year the Desso Grassmaster surface is also being extended in length and width to meet the Premier League requirements.
Facilities manager Doug Metcalfe explained: “We have to extend the playing surface to the current premier League and UEFA requirement, which is 105 metres by 68 metres.
“That means increasing the plateau and it’s a sign that we are trying to get everything done that means we comply when we next play in the Premier League.”
Work on stripping and reseeding the surface is expected to take two weeks and the pitch will be ready for action by August 1.
