Defender Danny Lafferty played another full 90 minutes for Rotherham United, but was unable to prevent a narrow 1-2 home defeat to Wigan Athletic.

The Northern Ireland international was making his second appearance for the Millers, after an eye-catching win against Huddersfield Town on his debut, but Jermaine Pennant’s free-kick double stunned the New York Stadium.



And despite Matt Derbyshire pulling one back for the hosts before the break, the Latics held on for a vital victory and breathed new life into their survival hopes.

The Yorkshire side are now 21st in the Sky Bet Championship and travel to Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Alex Cisak and Luke O’Neill both played the full 90 minutes for Leyton Orient and helped the O’s to a clean sheet in their 3-0 victory over Yeovil Town.





Fabio Liverani's side are now 21st in Sky Bet League One with a game in hand over side's around them and host Barnsley at the Matchroom Stadium tomorrow night.



Jason Gilchrist made his debut for Accrington Stanley with ten minutes remaining in their Sky Bet League Two clash with Burton Albion but couldn’t make a late impact as Stanley went down 3-0 at the Pirelli Stadium.
